Transcarent conducted a first-of-its-kind survey of over 1,300
employees and caregivers to better understand the challenges cancer
brings to the workplace. The research explores the entire cancer
journey—from screening and diagnosis to treatment and survivorship—
highlighting gaps in support, access to care, and financial stability.
Key findings reveal significant obstacles: nearly half of patients faced
difficulty obtaining a clear diagnosis, and most experienced delays in
starting treatment. Both patients and caregivers reported challenges
balancing work, emotional health, and financial burdens, with 44% of
patients accumulating over $10,000 in medical debt. Workplace stigma
persists, and many respondents believe specialized manager training
and flexible policies could improve their experience.
The report identifies five critical themes: the need for early detection
support, diagnostic clarity, holistic care, workplace accommodations,
and financial assistance. It concludes with actionable opportunities for
employers and details on how Transcarent’s Cancer Care program
offers comprehensive, personalized support to improve outcomes and
reduce costs.
